How to use the bond screener

Click Add filter and pick a filter. Each option shows how many bonds it gives. When you set more than one filter, the table shows only the bonds that match all of them. Click a column name to sort the table by that column.

Click a row to open the bond page. It shows the identifiers, the terms, the size, the trading venues and the last price of the bond, with the yield curve of its issuer. The address of the page keeps your filters, so you can save a search as a bookmark or send it to a colleague.

    Filters

    • Maturity and maturity type. The time left until the issuer repays the bond. A bond can be bullet, callable, puttable, amortizing or perpetual.
    • Coupon and interest type. The yearly interest in percent of the face value, and if the rate is fixed or floating.
    • Yield to maturity and duration. Both come from the last traded price of the bond. Modified duration tells you by how many percent the price changes when yields move by one percentage point.
    • Issued amount and minimum amount. The size of the issue, and the smallest amount you can buy. Many euro bonds trade in lots of 100,000. Set the minimum amount to "Up to 1,000" to find bonds in smaller lots.
    • Instrument. Bonds, medium-term notes, asset-backed and mortgage-backed securities, convertible bonds, structured products and money market instruments.
    • Issuer country, supervising country and currency. Find Italian BTPs, German Bunds, French OATs or the bonds of any other European country.
    • Issuer name, ISIN and LEI. Show all the bonds of one company or government.

    Where the data comes from

The list of bonds comes from the MiFID II reference data that ESMA, the European Securities and Markets Authority, publishes each day. It has every bond that trades on a European venue, with the terms that the venue reports. We add the country of each issuer from its LEI record at GLEIF.

The yield to maturity comes from the last traded price that we have for the bond. A bond with no recent trade has no yield. A small chip next to a yield tells you when the number can be wrong, for example when the price is old or the bond is close to maturity.

    Questions

    What is a bond screener?

A bond screener is a tool that filters a large list of bonds by their terms. You set the maturity, the coupon, the yield or the currency that you want, and the screener shows the bonds that match.

    Is the bond screener free?

Yes. You can use all the filters without an account.

Can I buy a bond on BondSmartly?

No. BondSmartly shows data about bonds. To buy a bond, give its ISIN to your bank or broker. The bond page shows the venues where the bond trades.

Why do some bonds have no yield?

We calculate the yield from a traded price. Many bonds do not trade for weeks, and some never trade on a venue.

What is the difference between issuer country and supervising country?

The issuer country is where the company or government that borrows the money is registered. The supervising country is the country of the authority that supervises the bond under MiFID II. For example, Italy supervises the bonds of the State of Israel that trade in Milan.
